The Sectoral Workshop was attended by 51 prosecutors, investigative judges and presenters from 22 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America. The workshop provided a platform for these practitioners to examine and apply to national experiences the recommendations contained in the new<em>\u00a0IIJ Prosecutors\u2019 Juvenile Justice Practitioners\u2019 Note (IIJ Prosecutors\u2019 Note)\u00a0<\/em>operationalising the\u00a0GCTF&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/English-Neucha-tel-Memorandum-on-Juvenile-Justice.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Neuch\u00e2tel Memorandum on Good Practices for Juvenile Justice in a Counterterrorism Context<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mlqwhsp1u9p8.i.optimole.com\/OM5RUNw-Sdrq7PwF\/w:auto\/h:auto\/q:auto\/https:\/\/www.theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/1-copy.jpg\" alt=\"2\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>During the interactive workshop, practitioners were introduced to the&nbsp;<em>IIJ Prosecutors\u2019 Note,&nbsp;<\/em>which contains ten recommendations, each illustrated with examples from the countries served by the IIJ, on how prosecutors and investigative magistrates can operationalise the&nbsp;<em>Neuch\u00e2tel Memorandum<\/em>. The workshop also featured case presentations on topics addressed in the&nbsp;<em>IIJ Prosecutors\u2019 Note<\/em>, including diversion, confessions by minors, and prosecutor-led investigations. Practitioners engaged in robust discussions during breakout sessions as they worked through four hypothetical scenarios based on common challenges faced by practitioners handling juveniles in conflict with the law in a counterterrorism context. The hypothetical scenarios tracked the recommendations in the&nbsp;<em>IIJ Prosecutors\u2019 Note<\/em>&nbsp;and provided an opportunity for practitioners to discuss how their respective countries will use the&nbsp;<em>Neuch\u00e2tel Memorandum\u2019s&nbsp;<\/em>good practices and the&nbsp;<em>IIJ Prosecutors\u2019 Note\u2019s<\/em>&nbsp;recommendations in their respective countries to protect the rights of the child and ensure that the best interests of the child is a primary consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mlqwhsp1u9p8.i.optimole.com\/OM5RUNw-o1kNqwEc\/w:auto\/h:auto\/q:auto\/https:\/\/www.theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-3.jpg\" alt=\"2\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mlqwhsp1u9p8.i.optimole.com\/OM5RUNw-6HTLLUot\/w:300\/h:169\/q:auto\/https:\/\/www.theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/D_rppGXX4AAbvoc.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4348\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>At the conclusion of the three-day workshop, participants shared their satisfaction with the various approaches they were offered to handle minors\u2019 cases.
