The workshop focused on implementing the&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theiij.org\/publication\/non-binding-guiding-principles-on-use-of-battlefield-evidence-in-civilian-criminal-proceedings-2\/\">Non-Binding Guiding Principles on Use of Battlefield Evidence in Civilian Criminal Proceedings<\/a>&nbsp;<\/em>(<em>Guiding Principles<\/em>), developed by the U.S. Departments of State, Justice, and Defense in response to concerns raised by counter-terrorism partner countries and first presented publicly at the IIJ Battlefield Evidence Global Workshop in January 2019. The core audience for this follow-on workshop was comprised of judges, magistrates, and investigative judges, who have the important but challenging responsibility of ensuring that judgments in terrorism cases are based on authentic and reliable evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"257\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/battlefield-judges-1-1024x257.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"10951\" data-full-url=\"https:\/\/www.theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/battlefield-judges-1.jpg\" data-link=\"https:\/\/www.theiij.org\/event\/iij-battlefield-evidence-workstream-judges-workshop\/battlefield-judges-1\/\" class=\"wp-image-10952\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/battlefield-judges-1-1024x257.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/battlefield-judges-1-300x75.jpg 300w, https:\/\/theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/battlefield-judges-1-768x193.jpg 768w, https:\/\/theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/battlefield-judges-1-1536x386.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/battlefield-judges-1-1280x321.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/battlefield-judges-1.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>During the two-day training, the expert practitioners exchanged their experiences in collecting battlefield evidence, sharing it domestically and across borders, and introducing such evidence in real-world cases involving terrorism offences.
