The <em>IIJ Good Practices<\/em>&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;published in 2018 and developed under the auspices of the IIJ Global Central Authorities Initiative&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;are&nbsp;a set of internationally-recognised good practices for Central Authorities addressing the institutional, legal and practical considerations needed to facilitate effective international cooperation in terrorism and transnational crime cases.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">During the two-day curriculum development meeting, the national criminal justice experts, along with representatives from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI), identified and exchanged views on challenges to effective international judicial cooperation common in regional criminal cases and developed practical case studies addressing these challenges for use in forthcoming workshops.&nbsp;Participants also formulated suggestions on how Central Authorities should operate \u2013 including in regard to sharing evidence (formally and informally) and responding to extradition requests \u2013 that will be highlighted at the regional events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The new curriculum will guide IIJ-led regional workshops in 2019 and 2020 that will&nbsp;bring together judges, prosecutors, and investigators for multi-stakeholder capacity building on judicial cooperation and to encourage participating countries to adopt legislation, policies and procedures in line with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/IIJ-Good-Practices-for-Central-Authorities_September-2018.pdf\"><em>IIJ Good Practices for Central Authorities<\/em><\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Both the expert meeting and the upcoming regional workshops also support implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolutions&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/ga\/search\/view_doc.asp?symbol=S\/RES\/2322%282016%29&amp;referer=\/english\/&amp;Lang=E\">2322<\/a>&nbsp;(2016) and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/ga\/search\/view_doc.asp?symbol=S\/RES\/2396%282017%29&amp;referer=\/english\/&amp;Lang=E\">2396<\/a>&nbsp;(2017),&nbsp;which call for national and international measures to strengthen and facilitate effective judicial cooperation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mlqwhsp1u9p8.i.optimole.com\/OM5RUNw-U8zIIK4G\/w:auto\/h:auto\/q:auto\/https:\/\/www.theiij.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/DyT0FtNX4AAzcu9.jpg\" alt=\"DyT0FtNX4AAzcu9\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For more information on this expert meeting or the IIJ Global Central Authorities Initiative, contact Programme Manager <a href=\"mailto:carbajoa@theiij.org\">Adrian Carbajo<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":3727,"template":"","event_type":[184],"event_topic":[208],"pages_relationship":[82],"event_category":[],"class_list":["post-6792","event","type-event","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","event_type-workshops-ar","event_topic-global-central-authorities-ar","pages_relationship-global-central-authorities-initiative"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.5 -
