On 9 and 10 May the IIJ participated in a NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme-funded workshop on Countering Terrorist Recruitment in Turkey. Topics discussed during the event included recruitment methods used by terrorist groups and related counter measures and enhancement of communities through applicable policies to tackle the recruitment mechanisms of terrorists. The IIJ focused its presentation on the counter terrorism paradigm shift that has emerged over the past decade that requires prevention and rule of law-based response. This justice sector response looks to the emerging good practices developed by the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) and the capacity building work being implemented by the IIJ and others to directly supports this approach.
