The Role of Psychologists and Religious Leaders in Rehabilitation and Reintegration in Kosovo

IIJ Introduces the Role of Psychologists and Religious Leaders in Rehabilitation and Reintegration in Kosovo:  From 29 November – 1 December, in collaboration with ICITAP Kosovo and with support from the US, the International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law (IIJ), sponsored a 3-day workshop in Pristina, Kosovo for Imams, Socials Workers and Psychologists working in Kosovo, as well as Prison Officers and Police Officers working in the field of Counterterrorism. The workshop, part of a key RFTF IIJ initiative, highlighted the critical role religious leaders and psychologist can and should have in achieving sustainable rehabilitation and reintegration of terrorist offenders. During the workshop, several international experts provided presentations on faith based counseling, various modes of rehabilitation, Kosovo terrorist profiles, assessment tools, avoiding stigmatization and effective counseling and mentoring skills. While the first day of the workshop had a more general nature, the last 2 days of the workshop consisted of practical training for those working in prisons and dealing with terrorist offenders on a daily basis.
