The International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law was pleased to welcome a delegation from the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies (KIJLS) in Malta. Executive Secretary, Mr. Steven Hill, met with Counsellors Hani Al Hamdan, Tareq Al Jaber, and Muhammed Al Duaij at IIJ offices in Valletta.
This 2-day visit helped to further discuss and develop joint programmes on the national, regional, and international levels and to foster solid cooperation in line with the mandates of both organisations. This courtesy visit follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two institutions in December 2022. with the objective to enhance collaborations to support criminal justice practitioners’ responses to counter terrorism and violent extremism with a rule of law and human rights context.
The KIJLS develops the capacities of judges and nationals working in public prosecution, the Fatwa and Legislation Department, and the General Department of Investigations in Kuwait on a practical and applied basis to qualify them for their career duties and works with a broad range of international partners.
The IIJ is looking forward to this collaboration, as Mr. Steven Hill stated during the signature of the MoU, “to the IIJ’s efforts to expand its network of partnerships with like-minded Institutes to further support our practitioners in their work.”
