The IIJ proudly hosted its annual Governing Board of Administrators meeting at the historic Teatru Manoel in Valletta. The event provided a unique opportunity to reflect on the past year's achievements and chart the course for the year ahead.
The meeting was opened by the IIJ's co-chairs, Nigeria and the United States, whose remarks emphasising the critical importance of our work in countering terrorism. They commended the IIJ’s significant progress over the past year, particularly in fostering international cooperation and strengthening the Institute’s growing alumni network.
Executive Secretary Steven Hill extended a warm welcome to the Governing Board and highlighted the IIJ’s impactful accomplishments. He reaffirmed our commitment to staying relevant, fostering continuity, and building a strong alumni community.
Gail Malone, Director of Programmes, showcased compelling success stories, illustrating the IIJ’s focus on meeting the evolving needs of practitioners. She spotlighted the Institute’s advancements in gender balance, the integration of technology, and a practitioner-centered approach to capacity-building initiatives.
Naoufel Gaied, Director of the Academic Unit, shared participant testimonials and presented the IIJ’s vision for expanding its research and programme focus in MENA and Arabic-speaking countries. He also outlined recent academic initiatives designed to address emerging challenges in counterterrorism and rule of law.
Paul Madden, CT PHARE Project Lead, provided an overview of achievements in the MENA region and Africa, while previewing upcoming projects scheduled for 2025. These initiatives reaffirm the IIJ’s commitment to advancing global counterterrorism efforts through collaborative, impactful programming.
The IIJ extends its heartfelt gratitude to Malta, the Institute’s host country and a dedicated board member, for its steadfast support and exceptional hospitality throughout this year’s meeting.
