Between 23 October and 2 December 2024, the IIJ Academic Unit delivered the third edition of the online ‘Counter Terrorism Academic Curriculum (eCTAC) for Anglophone Practitioners from East and West Africa’.
The intensive, online course develops practitioners’ core skills and expertise to proactively investigate and prosecute terrorist cases within the framework of the rule of law and human rights. In addition to modules on topics ranging from roles and responsibilities to handling intelligence and gathering evidence, the course focused on addressing the challenges of inter-agency and international judicial cooperation.
Peer to peer learning is central to all IIJ Academic Unit courses. The course was led by experienced practitioners and provided participants with a valuable opportunity to learn from each other and build their professional networks. This was achieved through interactive tutorial sessions and a tabletop exercise that required participants to work together on a simulated, cross-border terrorism case.
Twenty-five (25) prosecutors and investigators, from seven jurisdictions, successfully completed the course and will be invited to the in-person component in Malta during 2025.
This impactful course was made possible thanks to the financial support of the United States.
