On 22-23 July, the IIJ welcomed a delegation from the Republic of Tajikistan to conduct in-depth consultations with key national stakeholders, including representatives from the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Office of the President, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The consultation is aimed to foster mutual trust and explore potential areas of engagement and collaboration. It took place within the framework of a new multi-year project funded by the European Commission’s Service for Foreign Policy Instrument, focused on the Prosecution, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration (PRR) of individuals returning from Iraq and Northeast Syria to Tajikistan.
This multi-year project (2025-2028) will be implemented in collaboration with the other two Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF)-inspired institutions, Hedayah and GCERF.
In the framework of this project, the IIJ will deliver specialized expertise and targeted capacity-building support to strengthen the ability of judicial and law enforcement actors to investigate, prosecute, and manage cases involving foreign terrorist fighters (FTFs) and their families, thereby supporting safe, individualized, and rights-compliant PRR processes.
In this context, the consultation marked a significant milestone in building mutual understanding and aligning the IIJ’s proposed work plan with Tajikistan’s national priorities, further refining a shared vision for project implementation.
Stay tuned for the official project launch this September together with our partners, where we will further highlight our shared commitment to rights-compliant and sustainable PRR efforts Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
