The IIJ’s Executive Secretary, Steven Hill, welcomed H.E. Tadahiko Yamaguchi, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Malta, to our premises to formalise a collaboration between the IIJ and Japan. During their meeting, they signed a note verbale establishing Japan’s first programme grant to the IIJ, which will support our initiatives on countering the misuse of artificial intelligence in terrorism across Southeast Asia (SEA).
This grant will enable the IIJ to expand its work in SEA, fostering research, policy development, and capacity-building efforts related to criminal justice responses to counter misuse of AI in terrorism governance, security, and ethical considerations. By engaging with regional partners, the IIJ aims to promote responsible AI adoption and ensure that technological advancements align with legal and human rights frameworks.
The IIJ is excited about this partnership with Japan and looks forward to further collaborative opportunities that will strengthen AI governance and policy development in SEA. This initiative highlights the shared commitment of both parties to advancing technology in a way that upholds justice, security, and regional stability.
