On 3–4 November 2026, The International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law (IIJ) welcomed members of its Governing Board of Administrators (GBA) to the historic Old University Building in Valletta, Malta, for its Annual Meeting.
The two-day meeting provided an opportunity for Board members to review the Institute's achievements over the past year, discuss strategic priorities, and consider its programme of work and budget for 2027.
IIJ Executive Secretary Mr. Naoufel Gaied provided an overview of the Institute's strategic direction, ongoing activities, and resource mobilisation efforts, reaffirming the IIJ's commitment to strengthening criminal justice responses to terrorism and transnational organised crime in accordance with the rule of law.
Members also received updates on the work of the IIJ's Programmatic and Academic Units, including progress under the EU-funded Advancing Women in Counter-Terrorism and Prosecution, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (PRR) initiatives.
Looking ahead, discussions highlighted opportunities to further strengthen cooperation with the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF), including through closer coordination and continued collaboration in support of shared counter-terrorism objectives.
The IIJ also expresses its sincere gratitude to H.E. Sandrine Lelong-Motta, Ambassador of France to Malta, for graciously hosting a reception on the occasion of the Annual Meeting, and to France for its longstanding commitment to and continued support of the Institute.
The IIJ extends its sincere appreciation to all Governing Board members for their continued guidance, engagement, and support, as well as to the Government of Malta for its longstanding partnership and hospitality.
